You would play a mod if you wanted more from the game, a better looking game and/or a different playstyle. What is in development is The Special Extended Edition - Director's Cut, very different gameplay to the original (and not just extended gameplay).

v1.06 Battle for Middle-earth II v1.06 Patch - Norwegian. This patch updates the Italian version of LOTR: Battle for Middle-Earth 2 to v1.06. 1.08 is good if you want balance for competitive play (which I don't/can't even do =p ). v1.06 Battle for Middle-earth II v1.06 Patch - Italian. Make a folder in your game file which is located in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Battle for Middle-earth II and name is BFMEII HD. The Special Extended Edition stopped development-proper before it was effectively balanced. Download and install the BFMEII HD Edition. Bfme2 SEE ( Special Extended Edition) is a fan-made expansion of bfme2 with loads of new units, heroes, structures, abilities and powers, its only compatible with 1.06 and there would be no way for me to suggest it, except if you want to spend 1 hour as average time to play a simple 1v1 (Ive played it to check it out and just to let you know, the farms or any other structure does ages to be destroyed). After I checked all its adds, I unistalled it cuz it was useless. The only fan thing you would get is to see the new stuff they added, but in no way this game would be considered as an appropriate for competitivity one.
